Pawtucket Red Sox win the longest game in professional baseball history in Rhode Island.

April 18, 1981

The Red Sox and the Rochester Red Wings play to a 2-2 tie in 32 innings in an International League game at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket. The game is finally suspended at 4:09 a.m. the next day by plate umpire Dennis Cregg, who had initially allowed it to continue because his rulebook did not contain the league’s updated provision that no inning could start after 1 a.m. The Red Sox subsequently win 3-2 in the 33rd inning, when the game is resumed in Pawtucket on June 23, 1981.
